Microsoft eating into Apple’s share of tablet market

Microsoft has finally got its formula right and consumers are starting to take interest in its tablets. Shipments are already up 58% this year and represent 10% of the market, and, according to research firm Strategy Analytics, this growth could lead to Microsoft and Microsoft-powered devices accounting for 18% of tablet sales by 2019, just behind Apple on 23%.

“Windows Tablet market share has dwindled in the mid-single digit range for the last few years but Windows devices now run the gamut,” said Eric Smith, senior analyst, tablet & touchscreen strategies service.

“Power, graphics, and functionality aside, Windows 10 provides a stable base from which the ecosystem can grow and we are entering a world where Windows Tablets take significant market share from Android Tablets on the low end and compete head-to-head with iPad in the high and premium segments.” – AFP/RelaxNews pic, November 23, 2015.
