Visitors interested in the history of the region will want to make sure to check out Intramuros, the oldest district and historic core of Manila.

Also called the “walled city”, it harkens back to the days when fortresses were required to keep the people of an area safe from outsiders.

2. Manila Baywalk

The Manila Baywalk was closed for upgrading works a few years ago, and since its reopening in 2013, has become a major, thriving attraction for locals and tourists alike.

This 2km stretch of seaside walkway comes alive every day with a slew of entertainment, eateries and recreational fun.

The main draw of the Baywalk has to be the breath-taking sunset along Roxus Boulevard, something truly not to be missed on any visit to the city.

3. Manila Oceanpark

Manila’s Oceanpark is the country’s first world-class marine theme park, and is perfect for children and the young-at-heart who have a love for ocean creatures. Located behind Quirino Grandstand at Rizal Park, the park features the Philippines’s first and tallest musical fountain as tall as 36.5m high and the largest water and laser show consisting of more than 1,600 water nozzles.

Water, music, lights and special effects are backed by live performance.

There are many places throughout Metro Manila where you can experience the bar and nightclub scene but this district within the city of Manila is the best known.

5. Shopping

It’s worth it to check out at least one of the three major malls in Metro Manila, whether or not you’re a shopper.

SM Mall of Asia, SM City North Edsa and SM Megamall are all on the list of the world’s largest malls, also making them historic attractions as well as intriguing sightseeing opportunities.

You’ll find anything from local products to imported, luxury items, so be sure to get your credit cards ready and complete your visit to Manila with some retail therapy.
