AirAsia showcases the best of local food with new menu
Homegrown budget airline AirAsia today launched its newest local-themed in-flight menu in a bid to popularise the region's culinary offerings.
Named "Santan", or coconut milk, the menu promises to be true to the authentic and rich flavours of local delicacies while appealing to more global tastebuds, AirAsia Group CEO Tony Fernandes said at the launch in Kuala Lumpur.
"Our ancillary team is always looking for ways on how we can improve our guests' in-flight experience.
"Food of course plays a major part but we don't want to just sell food, we want to show how unique and delicious Asean dishes are to all our guests," he said.
On AirAsia Berhad (AK) flights, guests can tuck into nasi dagang with chicken curry served with dodol, teriyaki chicken rice cakes and smoked chicken pizza sandwiches.
They can also pre-book tomato rice with ayam percik, chicken satay wrap and vegetable pasta with roast chicken.
Meanwhile, the nasi dagang and mee goreng mamak will be available on AirAsia X Berhad (D7) flights.
Kids’ meals, which include two mini chicken burgers and Ribena, can also be booked on both flights to keep children satisfied.
Fernandes said the new menu was a tribute to the people of the region, who were passionate about food.
"The most common question I get is, have you eaten? And this can be at 9 in the morning, or any other time for that matter!"
The new menu is just the first step in AirAsia's new venture, he said.
"Step one is the menu. Step two is regionalising the menu. Who knows one day we might have a Santan restaurant in klia2," Fernandes said.
"But when we build it, we just hope it doesn't sink." – August 18, 2015.
