AirAsia to begin operations at KKIA Terminal 1 tomorrow
AirAsia Bhd said it will be moving to Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) Terminal 1 effective tomorrow.
"AirAsia's operations in Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) will be operating out of Terminal 1 effective December 1, 2015," the budget airline said in a statement today.
AirAsia currently operates 504 weekly flights to and from KKIA, and it said all the existing flight schedules for both domestic and international flights remain unchanged.
"All AirAsia guests departing from or landing at Kota Kinabalu were informed of the move from Terminal 2 to Terminal 1, which is 4km away from each other," the statement reads.
"The airline will continue to provide assistance to all guests travelling to and from its Kota Kinabalu hub in light of this move," it added.
AirAsia had refused to move from Terminal 2 to Terminal 1 at KKIA since 2011, citing costs and terminal constraints as the main reasons.
Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd had previously fixed November 1 as the deadline for AirAsia to move from Terminal 2, but the due date had been extended to December 1 after both parties met with the Ministry of Transport. – The Edge Markets, November 30, 2015.
