America’s first virtual reality roller coasters start rolling
βOn Saturday, Six Flags Over Georgia will officially open the new generation VR Roller Coaster ride to the public.
Developed through a partnership with Samsung, the ride takes the park's existing "Dare Devil Dive" attraction and throws in an added immersive dimension via Gear VR headsets that all adult riders will be able to use.
"This remarkable technology is a definite game-changer for theme park rides," said John Duffey, Six Flags president and CEO.
With the headsets on, riders will take part in a virtual futuristic air battle as co-pilots of individual jet fighters, darting between skyscrapers as they try to thwart an alien invasion.
Six Flags is aiming to bring the VR experience to nine of its theme parks around the US before the end of 2016. As well as Six Flags Over Georgia, this weekend a VR-enhanced roller coaster will open to season pass holders at Six Flags Over Texas. β AFP, March 12, 2016.
