Penang top destination for most affordable sunny holiday
A UK-based holiday accommodation site has voted Penang the top Southeast Asian destination and sixth in the world for affordable sunny holidays to chase the winter blues away.
For many in temperate countries, winter is often a dark and dreary season. For a taste of the sunny tropics, Malaysia's very own Pearl of the Orient was rated as a popular destination for its food, jungles and beaches, according to website Holidaylettings.co.uk.
According to the site, UK visitors spend an average of £464 (RM2,870) a week in Penang, which boasts a warm average temperature of 28°C.
Neighbouring Thailand also made its way to two spots on the list with Pattaya in 11th place and Phuket in 24th.
Pattaya is known for as much of their nightlife as their beaches with an entertainment street full of pubs and bars while Phuket is the very picture of paradise with limestone cliffs and clear waters.
Other popular sunny destinations on the list of 24 included Goa in third place, and Perth in Australia as well as Mauritius.
