UN sec-gen criticises Ankara attack

The United Nations continue to support and stand in solidarity with Turkey in light of the terrorist attack in Ankara. – Reuters pic, March 14, 2016.The United Nations continue to support and stand in solidarity with Turkey in light of the terrorist attack in Ankara. – Reuters pic, March 14, 2016.UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon yesterday condemned a terrorist attack in the Turkish capital of Ankara, which reportedly killed and wounded dozens of people earlier in the day, China's Xinhu news agency reported.

"The secretary-general sends his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims," said a statement issued here by Ban's spokesman.

"The United Nations continues to support and stand in solidarity with the people and the government of Turkey at this trying time," said the statement.

 At least 34 people were killed and 125 others injured when a huge blast ripped through the heart of Ankara. 

The explosion occurred in Kizilay Square, near a central bus station, a park and several government ministries. – Bernama, March 14, 2016.
