Market research company Euromonitor International says Hong Kong is the place to be. – AFP/Relaxnews pic, January 30, 2016.Market research company Euromonitor International has released its latest Top 100 City Destinations ranking for international arrivals.
Looking at data for 2014, Hong Kong ranks as the number one destination in the world, for the sixth year in a row, with 27.8 million international travellers visiting in 2014.
London surpassed Bangkok and Singapore to take second place. London is the top European city in terms international arrivals followed by Paris in fifth. North America's most visited city and the only one in the top 10 was New York in eighth.
Rio de Janeiro showed the highest jump in international arrivals with a 46.6% increase due to the FIFA World Cup. Greece had a record year in 2014: three Greek cities made the Top 100 with Athens seeing double-digit growth.
Kiev did not make the Top 100 for the first time due to geopolitical tension in the region. Saint Petersburg and Moscow saw double digit declines.
The United States and China top the rankings with seven cities each in the ranking.
